Standing 8 metres tall and 10m wide and weighing 2845kg, Te Aika forms the ceremonial entrance to Te Pae Convention Centre on the banks of Christchurch’s Avon River.
Designed by artists Simon Kaan and Rachael Rakena and produced by SCAPE Public Art in collaboration with the Matapopore Trust, Te Aika creates a real wow factor. The steel frame is clad in aluminium panels coated with a textured white coating designed to gleam in the light.
It was an honour to be a part of this project and bring the vision of the artists to life.
