The multi-use sports facility will be approximately 6,000m2 in size and house four indoor courts. It will be home to a range of sports including futsal, handball, korfball, volleyball, netball, badminton and basketball. It also includes a central fitness facility, changing rooms, coaching and meeting spaces and seating for up to 500 spectators.
John Jones Steel was awarded the contract to supply and erect the 700 tonne of steel required for this project. Our in house draughting team produced the shop drawings, our Timaru and Christchurch workshops fabricated the steel with our paint shop applying the primer coat. The majority of the steel is exposed to view and although our usual standard of workmanship would have been adequate we decided to make an extra effort to ensure the finished product was above what was expected.
Then our trucks transported the final product to site for our site team to assemble large sections on the ground and then lifted into place using our cranes this minimises at height work and speeds up the erection process.
